It’s looking healthy for Drum and Bass right now if this month’s essential releases are anything to go by. We’ve got LP’s from Overlook, Klute, Macca and Loz Contreras….

Bop – Not Your Cup Of Tea EP [Med School]

Russian  producer Bop returns to Med School with this 6 track EP. Signature minimal vibes with glithcy drums throughout which is a formula which still sounds like it’s drum and bass. It’s actually been years since Bop made his debut on Med School but his sound is still fresh as ever.

Overlook – Smoke Signals [UVB-76]

Overlook drops a debut album on UVB-76 and it’s for the proper heads! A combination of dark and emotive soundscapes mixed with crisp breaks make for a really impressive listen. A must have for this month.

Macca & Loz Contreras – Better World LP [Fokuz Recordings]

An album I’ve very much been looking forward to here and a lesson in proper liquid funk. Macca and Loz Contreras seem to have expertise in picked out the lushest funk and jazz samples to combine with their rolling sound and it really works a treat. Chuck in remixes from lenzman and S.P.Y for good measure and you’ve got yourself a another great debut album.

Klute – Read Between The Lines LP [Commercial Suicide]

Klute returns with a new album on his own Commercial Suicide imprint and he certainly hasn’t lost his touch. New beats but still with Klute’s signature sound. Highlights for me ‘Lose my way’, ‘Angel Makers’ and ‘Soul Boy’.

Ivy Lab – Peninsula EP [Critical Music]

Ivy Lab are back with more of their 20/20 sounds on Critical. Some really complex half time styles make for a really interesting listen. I must admit I was hoping for a couple of Ivy Lab rollers on this one but the quality of what’s on offer for the Peninsula EP more than make up for it.

Skeletone – Octavius / Mouse Runner [Flight Pattern]

A label that’s ticking over nicely is Random Movements Flight Pattern Imprint. This latest 2 track effort is from Skeletone and is two bouncy liquid numbers with perfectly sliced up breaks.

Om Unit & Sam Binga: Trans-Siberian EP [BUNIT]

Very cool EP here from Om Unit and Sam Binga returning with thier BUNIT label. Really feeling Optimist prime which is a powerful stepper with some really cool synth sounds.

Danny Wheeler – Spread Your Wings EP [W10 Records]

Jazzy liquid sounds like this were probably the reason I got into Drum and Bass in the first place and this super smooth EP from Danny Wheeler is bang on the money for fans of that sound.

Anthony Kasper – Misery Loves Company EP [Fokuz Recordings]

It seems at least one or two Fokuz releases make it in to my essential picks every month now and if they keep banging out great vibes like this new EP from regular Anthony Kasper i’ll be happy for that to continue.

Alibi – Trunk / No Escape [V Recordings]

An absolute stomper here from the Brazilian duo with MC Coppa on vocals. Nothing complicated about this formula with crisp rolling drums, big bass line and great rhymes. I give ‘Trunk’ the award for this month’s dance floor destroyer which I just made up!
