As I mentioned in my Essential DNB Jan, I caught up with one of the Artists. So here is what the guy’s who will soon be known as Ill Truth – Artists formally known as Despicable Youth…

Firstly, tell our readers about yourselves?

Hi, we are Despicable Youth. We are comprised of two 21 year olds from Bristol. We have been making music for around the last 3 years and specialise in Drum and Bass.

I loved your remix of Himalia on Pegdoll. Lovely deep vibes on that. What is the story behind the track?

Glad you like it. The remix really came about because we have been friends with one of the heads of Pegdoll records (Olly) for some time. He introduced us to Himalia and after hearing his album we jumped on the opportunity to remix ‘Distances’. It was a really quick creative process, we were working for no longer than a day before the full arrangement was finished, which almost NEVER happens!

For some of our readers this may be their first introduction to Despicable Youth, I have heard some bits on Lockdown and recall a mix for Kmag while we were both still working there. Give our readers a track that you feel happiest with?

‘Trolls’ has been our most successful release so far. It got quite a lot of radio coverage and did us good in terms of promotion as well. We are proud of this tune because it marked a change in the style of tracks that we were writing at the time. The fact that it did well was just a bonus.

What other projects are you working on or are near release?

In the next few months we will be changing the alias to ‘Ill Truth’. We felt that the way things were going and what we had done as Despicable Youth were going in different directions and so felt the need to change the name. We will be doing more with Lockdown Recordings and Lifestyle Music in the near future as well as many more labels too.

Happy new year and what does 2016 have in store for Despicable Youth?

The alias change is probably the main thing for 2016. As you can imagine, starting a fresh alias isn’t the quickest process in the world; for the last 6 months we have been working on new material ready to launch it all with but other than that we hope to play lots of exciting gigs and get some music out to you guys.

Yet more Bristol based D&B heads!!! It appears it’s the place to be for the lovers of DNB?

Bristol is definitely the place to be for Drum and Bass in our eyes. It has such a thriving scene. Loads of really talented people to network with and a great family vibe

With that said, any people in that area we should keep an eye on?

The ‘Liquifyah’ crew are definitely ones to watch. Everybody involved are super talented in their own way. I encourage you to check them out and their podcast! You can find out more about them on their Facebook page (include link)

Finally, is there anything you want to add?

We would just like to thank everyone who has supported us so far and anyone who does in the future. Big ups to Olly and the Pegdoll crew and a massive shout to 2016. Come at us you midwife.
