Mefjus & Ivy Lab (Mef:Lab) – Sunday Crunk Remix / Blame you Remix (Critical)
I Must admit Mefjus (although a very good producer) is not usually my cup of tea but as soon as I heard Ivy Lab play his remix of ‘Sunday Crunk’ out a few months back I had to have it! the build up suggests its about to drop into some intense nuerofunk, but what you get is some angry minimal half step pimping! The Flip side sees Mefjus’s colab with Zoe Klinck get the now trademark Ivy Lab Rolling treatment. Two very different but top tracks.
Various – Ten (Spearhead)
You can check out my recent interview with Bcee about this project here, but for this ill just pick out a few of my favorites on the Future sounds disc. LSB continues his current fine form with the rolling ‘Loop of Love, Technicolour gives a previous favorite ‘Centrifuge’ the VIP treatment, Hybrid minds link up with Riya for a deep track packed with lovely strings and original label bosses Bcee and Kubiks re-unite for ‘ Ten Years On’. Plenty of other top producers involved also accross the 2 discs.
DRS – Mid Mic Crisis (Soul:R)
You’d have to be living under a drum and bass proof rock to not know about this second album from Mc DRS. The previous two samplers have already been doing damage on many dance floors as NSD alluded to in the last essential DNB post and with this album we see further wicked colabs with the likes of Calibre, S.P.Y, Skeptical, DJ Die and Lynx to name a few.
Various – The Source of life (Fokuz)
If you’re into your “Liquid” than this is an absolute must buy for this month. Fokuz have always known how to hit the nail on the head when it comes to the deep liquid style and this various artist proves it once again. Was very pleased when I saw the track list as I feel its packed full of artists who maybe deserve more recognition than they get.
Mark System – Final Approach (Exit)
There has been quite a buzz around Mark System’s Debut album on Exit and rightly so. This effort is packed full of atmospheric tracks with lovely clean breaks. After listening to this album from start to end on my journey to work you get the overall impression that System knows exactly where dnb has been and where is should be going! this album is already a contender for best of the year.
Seba – Nothing can replace (John B remix) / Too much too soon (Blu Mar Ten remix) (Secret Operations)
Two vastly different but still on point remixes on Seba’s own label Secret operations. ‘Nothing can replace’ gets a rework in John B’s signature style whist on the flip Blu Mar Ten and Seba link up once again with a lovely deep roller.
DJ Chap & Andrezz – Back EP (Liquid V)
Fearful – Mechanism EP (Diffrent)
Fearful drops a 4 track EP on Diffrent music and its packed with massive bone shattering bass and crisp steppy drums.
Fre4knc – Chain Of Command / Sinjek (Plasma Audio)
Dutch producer Fre4knc has been one of the most exciting new producers to emerge in recent times and his great form continues with these two tracks on Plasma audio showcasing his high production and wicked drum work.
